What is the difference among IBCs that were earned, passed, and attempted?
Earned: The student passed all required portions of the IBC examination and met all other
requirements, such as fingerprinting, passing background checks, submitting required
paperwork, application for licensure, etc. The student has fully earned the IBC and is able to
prove this through a physical certification from the certifying entity or electronic database
maintained by the certifying entity. Earning an IBC counts toward CCMR and allows the LEA
to request reimbursement for the cost of one certification examination per high school
student.
Passed: The student passed one or more assessments out of a multiple-part assessment
certification. However, the student has not earned the certification because not all
certification assessments required to earn the certification were passed. A student may
have passed the examination(s), but not met the other requirements to have earned the
certification, such as fingerprinting, passing a background check, applying for licensure, etc.

Attempted: The student attempted the certification examination but did not pass.
